Hally “Hal” Asa Arbogast, age 87, passed away in the Juniper House Assisted Living in Pendleton, Oregon on September 22, 2023.
Hal was born August 9, 1936 in Walla Walla, Washington to Floyd and Nettie (Simons) Arbogast. He graduated from High School in Ukiah, Oregon in 1955, then went on to earn his bachelor’s degree from Oregon State University in 1968, where he was also a member of the Farmhouse Fraternity.
He served in the US Army, at a military hospital, in Berlin, Germany during peacetime. He had a real passion for trees, which suited him well while he spent his career working as a Forester for both the United States Forest Service and later some private mills. Hal also served as Mayor of Long Creek, Oregon for 12 years.
Hal was married to Judith Ann Cavender and the couple had 2 sons together: Nathan Alan and Matthew Aron. He enjoyed deer and elk hunting with his boys.
Reading was a favorite pastime for Hal and he even kept a home library. He was a devout Christian and loyally served as a member of the Living Word Christian Center congregation in Pendleton and formerly in Mount Vernon.
Hal was preceded in death by his parents, 2 brothers, Jerry and Bud Arbogast and his son Nathan Arbogast.
He is survived by his son Matt Arbogast and wife Sunny of Colorado and his daughter in law (Nathan’s wife) Chandra Arbogast of Elkton, Oregon as well as his ex-wife, Judy Cavender. He is also survived by 4 grandsons: Cade, Kai, Tyler and Jamie Arbogast and 1 granddaughter Cara Arbogast Huato.
A memorial service will be held for him on Friday, October 6th, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Living Word Christian Center in Pendleton, with Pastor Sharon Miller officiating. The location address is 401 Northgate, Pendleton, Oregon 97801. Pie and refreshments will be served in the Church Fellowship Hall afterwards.
A graveside service will be held the following day, Saturday, October 7th, 2023 at 1:00 PM at the Monument Cemetery in Monument, Oregon with Mitch Mund officiating. Army Funeral Honors will be performed as well. Friends will be invited to join the family for refreshments at the Monument Senior Center following the graveside service.
In light of Hal’s love and immense knowledge of trees, his family requests anyone wishing to leave a memorial contribution in Hal’s honor, to do it by donating a tree to be planted. This may be done on the Driskill Memorial Chapel website, or any other organization of your choice.
