Rex Ernest Beck, age 87, of Milton-Freewater, Oregon passed away December 20, 2022, in John Day, Oregon. A funeral service will be held on Saturday, December 31, 2022, at the Seventh Day Adventist Church in John Day starting at 2:00 PM.
Rex was born on April 4, 1935, in Hydesville, California to Ernest and Margaret Lucille (Owen) Beck. He married his first wife, Pauline Lind in 1954, together they had six children. They later divorced.
He married the love of his life, Ellen L. (Grove) Beck in Lewiston, Idaho on August 25, 1978.
Rex had many occupations throughout his life. He was a cowboy who raised and trained his own quarter horses, a guide, and a saddle maker. He also was a logger, heavy equipment operator, and built his own seaworthy fishing boat in his back yard in Nevada City, California. He used that boat for many years and fished for salmon, tuna and crabbed off the California coast out of Eureka, California. He even built his own home in Baker County in the Keating Valley.
He enjoyed packing into the wilderness on horseback, working with leather, and playing guitar. He was a member of the Seventh Day Adventist Church and the Back Country Horsemen.
Survivors include, his loving wife, Ellen Beck of College Place, WA; sons, Blaze Beck and Doug Beck of Roseburg, OR; Ernie Beck of Doyle, CA; Clyde Beck of Nevada City, CA; Dusty Beck of North San Juan, CA; and one daughter, Wendy Moss.
